Why is a Student Visa Important?

A student visa is not just a travel document; it's your official permission to live and study in a foreign country. Securing the right student visa is crucial because:

  • Legal Authorization to Study: A student visa gives you the legal right to attend classes, participate in academic activities, and live in your host country.
  • Work Opportunities: Many student visas allow you to work part-time while studying, offering you a chance to gain experience and support your living expenses.
  • Access to Healthcare and Benefits: Some student visas come with healthcare benefits, making it easier for you to stay safe and healthy abroad.
  • Post-Graduation Work Rights: In some countries, a student visa opens doors to work after graduation, allowing you to build your career abroad.

The United States, the United Kingdom, Australia, and Canada remain among the top four destinations for international students, with more than 1 million students from across the globe choosing these countries every year to further their education. Australia Student Visa (Subclass 500)

The Student Visa (Subclass 500) allows international students to live and study in Australia full-time at a registered educational institution. This visa covers all types of study programs, including school education, vocational education and training (VET), higher education, postgraduate research, and English Language Intensive Courses for Overseas Students (ELICOS). With this visa, students can stay in Australia for up to five years depending on the length of their course and are allowed to work part-time — up to 48 hours per fortnight during the study period and unlimited hours during scheduled course breaks.

To be eligible, applicants must be enrolled in a CRICOS-registered course, provide a Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE), meet genuine temporary entrant (GTE) requirements, and have adequate health insurance through Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC). English language proficiency and financial capacity are also required. This visa not only supports your academic goals but also offers a pathway to post-study work opportunities, especially for those pursuing higher education qualifications.

Australia Student Guardian Visa (Subclass 590)

The Student Guardian Visa (Subclass 590) is designed for parents, legal guardians, or relatives who need to accompany and care for international students under the age of 18 studying in Australia. It allows the guardian to stay in Australia for the duration of the student’s course or until the student turns 18. In some cases, guardians of students over 18 with special needs may also be eligible. The visa holder must be able to provide appropriate accommodation, support, and general welfare to the student.

While the Student Guardian Visa does not permit full-time work or study, the holder can study an English course for up to 20 hours per week or undertake other short courses lasting up to three months. Financial requirements must be met to demonstrate the ability to support both themselves and the student, and applicants must have adequate health insurance. This visa ensures peace of mind for families, knowing their child is supported and supervised while studying in Australia.
